Hi, My name is satyahit,given to me personally by Srila Prabhupada in 1969 Boston..I had joined the hare krsna movement in 1969 in Opa Locka Florida.. Born 1942..At 30 years old i had debilitating arthitus & a huge varicose vein on my left calf..The arthitus took the form of very uncomfortable swelling in the knee joints..I was wearing elastic stockings & trying whatever could help because even just standing up was painful after 30 seconds..After being told by a surgeon in a hospital in Ottawa Canada,to take aspirin for the arthitus & have the vein removed by surgery,i instintively felt this was not really helpful..Having tried aspirin,it makes the stomach hurt..I later found myself in Costa Rica & the swelling was cripling ..Having learned about fasting i went to the ocean with a freind & we began walking along a deserted beach,& i began fasting on "water" only..We walked throughout the day & i would sit down & do my japa,(chanting) meditation while the sun set..I was taking water from the odd stream coming from the jungle into the ocean..Each morning i would feel energized & just start walking till i became tired..On the fourth morning the vein & the knee swelling was gone completely..I did keep up the fast for 14 days ,which took me to a run down shack hotel on the beach,then back to the main city San Jose ?,& on to Panama where i stayed with a freind in his apt on the 3rd floor ..Thats another story ,but i was cured of the varicose vein & the arthitus on the fourth morning of the water fast..Now i am 58 & the vein has not returned... The arthitus has never gotten as severe as it was back then.. It is controlled by diet..& could leave altogether i beleive if my diet were better..Thats also another story...
