: I am interested in getting certified to practice reflexology, as well as acupressure techniques. The problem is finding a decent local school to attend. I live in Passaic County, New Jersey, and am fairly in the middle of everything: upstate NY, NJ, (didn't really want to attend classes in NYC, but will as a last resort.) Any input? I'd appreciate it. THANKS!

Part of where to study depends on where you want to practice. Requirements vary depending on the state. For example, New Jersey doesn't yet have any certification requirements. New York State has specific requirements. I'm not sure about Pennsylvania.

If you plan on doing any Reflexology in New York, it would be a good idea to find out the state requirements. There are several good schools in NYC including Laura Norman and Associates. They advertise in several publications such as New Jersey Naturally (can be found in many health food stores).

There is also national certification through the following organization:

American Reflexology Certification Board
P.O. Box 620607
Littleton CO 80162
(303) 933-6921

They are NOT affiliated with any school and only do certifications. I am not sure if any states recognize their certification. Your best bet is to contact them.

Jan
